Discover the world of craftswomen at work through photographs and readings.
Blacksmith-designer, tattoo artist, saddler, organbuilder, mosaicist, luthier... the names of their trades suggest the hands that work, the hands that know, think, create and repair. Nineteen craftswomen from the French-speaking part of Switzerland opened the doors of their workshops or construction sites to photographer Vincent Guignet and writer Blaise Hofmann, pulsating with sounds, smells and stories.
Engaging bodies, ballet of tools, orchestration of movements, metamorphosis of tamed matter: this is the feminine story of the artisan's gesture, rooted in living traditions, sometimes centuries old, tirelessly repeated to the point of mastery and reinvention.
The Artisanes exhibition, a counterpoint to the book published by Editions Noir sur Blanc, takes visitors on a journey into the worlds of nineteen craftswomen at work, through never-before-seen photos and readings, as well as a selection of their handmade objects. It's a photoliterary immersion into the making of beauty, where the time-consuming nature of craftsmanship creates a space of freedom and resistance.
