Etoy is located 20 kilometres from Lausanne and 42 kilometres from Geneva. About a quarter of the 496 hectares of the municipality is used for arboriculture; 53 hectares are planted with vines.
Although somewhat uncertain, the origins of Etoy seem to date back to the 12th century. Its name is associated with Ulric de Stuie
(Estuey - Etoy), who was prior of the house of Etoy. The village was therefore originally a priory belonging to the Congregation of the Great St Bernard.
At the beginning of the 21st century, Etoy is a modern and dynamic town which has been able to develop its economic fabric without denying its origins all while preserving its village spirit.
In spite of its industrial development, the soul and life of the village persist, since agriculture, wine-growing and arboriculture are still very present.
