Saint-Oyens is a nice little village located above Essertines-sur-Rolle and at the bottom of the Jura mountain. It is at an altitude of 730 meters. Its territory stretches over 133 hectares (92 of those hectares are forest). This open space allows many nice strolls.
The most ancient name for Saint-Oyens is “Santo Eugendo” (1139), from Saint-Eugend. It was the name of an old convent (today Saint-Claude). Some events marked Saint-Oyens : a fire which destroyed most of the village(1857), the reconstruction of the destructed church (1877-1878), the creation of the new road between Essertines-sur-Rolle and Gimel (2nd half of XIX century).
