"What nerve these horsewomen have! The evolution of women in the equestrian world
Indeed, it took a lot of nerve for all the women riders to make their mark in this male-dominated world.
The feminisation of the equestrian world is a reality.
Since Greek mythology, the Amazons have been warriors considered the equal of men.
Scythian women warriors (5th century BC) have been discovered wearing trousers!
So the woman riding astride a horse wearing knickers is no legend...
It is not immodest to assert that the transition from riding astride an amazon to riding astride a horse is linked to the use of breeches!
In collaboration with Swiss and foreign institutions, museums, collectors, historians, artists and famous writers such as Jean Louis Gouraud (official ambassador for our exhibition), the Musée du Cheval de La Sarraz will be devoting an exhibition to this very contemporary subject in 2024.
Speakers and exhibitors include Laurent Willenegger, Fiona de Marval, Laura Chaplin, Rosine Lagier, Maryvonne Cattin, Brigitte Gremillet, Marine Oussedik, Catoche, Loïc Chollet and Thierry Buffet.
At once educational, fun and a little provocative, the exhibition "The nerve of horsewomen" is aimed at a wide audience: families, schoolchildren, professionals, enthusiasts and anyone with a passion for horses!
Starting in ancient times and continuing right up to the present day, the museum trail will be enlivened by iconographic representations of famous women riders.
Visitors will be able to wander among mannequins dressed in amazon costumes from all eras, headdresses, gold and precious stone riding crops, saddles, photos and many other feminine equestrian objects and accessories.
To all the women riders, vets, breeders, farriers, sports managers and the list goes on... not forgetting the men... we dedicate our exhibition to you!
